Overview
Subconscious is a company that keeps track of all your subscription fees on websites, apps and services.
Subconscious only benefits from desktop users but they’re aware that adding a mobile-friendly version of their product will significantly increase their market reach. As the sole UX/UI designer for this project, I took on the task to design a mobile-friendly version of a subscription tracker for their iOS app.

My assigned objective was to create the following user stories for an iOS mobile app to support the existing website.
I want to see all of my subscriptions in one place so that I can get a comprehensive view of my spending.
I want to unsubscribe from a subscription to reduce needless spending.
I want to be notified if any of my subscriptions are about to be auto-renewed.
8 user interviews, recurring negative emotions
Design - Low Fidelity
Validate I
Moderated usability tests were performed by 5 participants completing 3 tasks on wireframes.
This first round of testing taught me that overlooked details could mean the difference between interpreting $5,123.56 as money you owe 😨vs. money you have in your bank 🤑.
Design - High Fidelity & Prototype
I created a prototype from Marvel App to test my design ideas with users. This tool features simple animation and seamless integration to power up my workflow.

Results
When viewing all subscriptions: 5/5 (100%) participants during initial testing had trouble understanding the home screen’s graph and numbers it represented, compared to the 2/5 (40%) participants during second testing.
When unsubscribing to Creative Cloud: 2/5 (40%) participants expressed minor critique regarding UI elements and wording during initial testing. During second testing, 1/5 (20%) was confused about Subconscious’ Pause feature.
When finding notifications: 4/5 participants (80%) during initial testing were unable to complete the task due to not finding notifications. During second testing, all participants were able to complete the task, but 3/5 (60%) had trouble locating their notifications.
Conclusion
“You sort of start thinking anything is possible if you’ve got enough nerve.”
With Subconscious’ new mobile app, users have enhanced subscription tracking by 60%.
A 20% increase - resulting in 80% of total users - noted a more seamless experience when unsubscribing from subscriptions. 🙌🏼
As the sole UX/UI Designer and researcher for Subconscious, I am proud to successfully complete the project and immediately see the impact it had on our users and business.
